If you haven’t seen 2013’s The Conjuring yet, you’re missing out on one of the best horror movies of that decade. Here are some of the reasons why I love this movie and could easily watch it again.
First of all, the story is based on a true case of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who helped a family terrorized by a demonic presence in their farmhouse. The movie does a great job of creating a realistic and creepy atmosphere, with authentic details from the 1970s and excellent cinematography. It also avoids cheap jump scares and relies more on building tension and suspense, which makes it more effective and scary.
Second, the movie has amazing performances from the cast, especially Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the Warrens. They have great chemistry and portray their characters with depth and emotion, making us care about them and their mission to help the family. The actors who play the family members are also very convincing and sympathetic, especially the children who suffer the most from the haunting.
Third, the movie has some of the most memorable and terrifying scenes in horror history. Without spoiling anything, I’ll simply say that you might not look at a wardrobe or music box the same way again. The movie also has some clever twists and reveals that keep you guessing and engaged. It’s scary, but also smart and well-written.
The Conjuring is a masterpiece of horror that deserves all the praise and recognition it got. It’s one of those movies that really makes you appreciate the genre and the art of filmmaking.
